Woke Up With Too Much Awesome Today!

Image

Today started with peanut butter toast, chia seeds, and a banana with a glass of almond milk while reading the remainder of my amazing book that I already gushed about on my previous post today… 3 hours flew by as I was engrossed in that…

Forgive the fuzzy picture, my iPhone has taken a beating, but this looks like good conditions for a good midday run, right? I get that you can’t see the temperature, but I chose to ignore the 77 degree temperature. I honestly went out there with a good attitude. I even skipped the music today (GASP!). I was out there to listen to my footfalls and not only smile at other runners/walkers but to hear them say hello.Image

I found this wild creature. Three of them actually. One was black and I had to sprint past it before I took it home and named it Bagheera…

I took the scenic route through the woods for two (almost) one mi loops. It’s hilly and interesting back there. I was sweating profusely and panting like I was working hard so I thought I was practically flying.

I didn’t look until I was done. I don’t know what I was expecting… but it wasn’t this.

ImageI’m not disappointed. Okay, so maybe a little. You would understand why I was if you had seen how much I was sweating. oh wait! I have evidence

ImageThere you go… Those are beads of sweat. 9min/mi doesn’t usually destroy me like that! My hair was wet! haha. Oh well. It doesn’t matter. I got out there and got my shit done.

^— See that part not around the lake? I smiled when I saw that it was shaped like a fish. That was the forest part.

This lady was suffering out there with me. She was getting work done out there. I think she might have finished right about 3mi herself. Kudos to her for bringing the toddler and newborn and getting work done.

I walked back to my car. Did some stretching and have discovered that when I finally add in hill repeats, I have found a good hill…. ImageI don’t look forward to it.

I have never done hill repeats. I have always crammed training in. I’m kinda ADHD about this stuff…

—-> It’s a short but steep hill, I think it would be a good start… THOUGHTS?

I had a late lunch, played fetch with the puppy, and then the hubby came home early from work! I napped on him and afterwards we watched an episode of Supernatural before heading over to the box to get out strong on.

It was a good interval type wod. 5 3min AMRAPs with 3 min of rest afterwards. 5 Hang Power Snatch, 10 Knees To Elbow, and 20 Double Unders (I can’t do them yet so I do 3 singles for each rep. I did 60 singles to equate the effort of 20 double unders) Folks. I worked my stinkin a$$ off tonight. I was POURING sweat (clearly I woke up this morning with too much awesome and it came out my pores). My snatch is ugly. I need some help with them, but they did get better as we went along. As well they should considering I completed 117 of them.

All in all, today has been good to me.

An Incredible 4day Weekend (ALMOST) Staycation

After long run Wednesday, Thursday was a rest day and that evening began my husband’s 4 day weekend

ImageFriday was a suuuuuuuuuper lazy day watching episode after episode of Supernatural until about 5pm when it was time to visit Imagethe box with a WOD I designed and then hit the pavement with Paul (the hubby).ย  We did “Bring Sally Up” as a squat challenge warm-up. He used 45# and I used 35#. That was fun and no joke. You warm up fast. I promise.ย  We did 5 minutes of other variations of stretching. Then it was time to work on some strength. We were searching for the one rep max (1RM) bench press. I completed the ugliest 95# possibly ever, but by golly, I got it. Triple digits seem to elude me though. I have 95 pound 1RM for bench, push press, and power clean (push press and power clean haven’t been tested in a few weeks). Anyway! Then we moved onto the mini-WOD. 15-12-9 Box Jumps, 53# Kettlebell Swings, DB Push Press (18#), and butterfly situps. It took both of us just over 6 min (I won, not that that matters. haha). Then we headed out for a 5mi trot with the pooch. 45 minutes later we were finished and headed up the road (on foot) to grab a burger for cheat meal! ๐Ÿ™‚ We earned it! I had a DELICIOUS burger with egg, pepper jack cheese, guacamole, and some veggies. Words cannot describe how heavenly it truly was. Paul had a surf & turf burger which consisted of a deliciously seasoned burger (perfect for a seafood buddy) with crab meat and grilled onions. His was good, but mine won that battle. ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday I worked a ballgame at Auburn University and then went for a 3mi run with the dog that evening.ย  She was acting strange so it was not a fun run.ย  My dog seems to think that sewer drain lids are toxic or unstable or something. There were many on the route that I ran. No bueno.

Sunday was another lazy type day. Breakfast was delicious. Eggs with bison italian hot sausage, grilled peppers, grilled onions, and eggs… There were some household chores completed, grocery shopping did happen (and it was almost 100% clean. somehow M&Ms snuck in there. weird), and then we prepped a meal for the days I may not be able to and made dinner together. There were lots of Supernatural episodes again and I also finished a book. ๐Ÿ™‚ It was a good day.

Ah. This brings us to today. Monday. Long run day thanks to work. Only 5 days after the other long run. I got up at 530… I had prepped all snacks and fluids the night before. I slept in my sports bra and shorts… less room for excuses.ย  I had forgotten to get GU or something similar… so my run fuel had to be creative. I took some plain dry roasted almonds, sprinkled some water and then salt on them to allow them to soak and soften overnight.ย  I also grabbed a piece of homemade protein bar.ย  Drank my cup of coffee and was out the door at 0700 without having to drag myself out.
ImageIt felt good to be “ready” to go.
ImageIt was a cool and gorgeous morning.Imageย  I spent the first 6 miles running towards the sun. Watching the fog lift up off of the river. It was incredible. I chugged along at a happy little pace. Came across 3 Alligator warning signs… that’s always nice. ๐Ÿ™‚ I walked while I consumed the salt-water almonds (DELISH!) at mi 6. Off I went again. The best part of the run truly was around mile 9-10 when the air smelled like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. I SWEAR IT DID.

ImageImageI have to give this area some credit. They are working wonders on the riverwalks and things. This is a new pedestrian bridge that opened last Wednesday.ย ย  It’s lovely. I ran across it Friday for the first time while running with Paul and Roxanne (the pup). I saved my favorite little loop for the end of my run because it rejuvenates me a little and I did some exploring. The goal was 16 mi in 2:45…. I got it done in 2:44. WIN. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, yes I did wear my lucky neon green compression socks. I get compliments onย them every time I go out in them. I have officially completed 4 runs in them (10, 13.1, 14, and 16mi). I will invest in more as soon as I have 50 dollars to spend on socks. I need new running shoes first. This Muzinos have been supporting this body for 3 years. ImageImage

I did run out of water right at the end. You can see the distress on my face. Haha. All in all… it was a good run.

Then when I got home, the hubby made me a delicious breakfast while I showered.ย  Dinner was my favorite… buffalo chicken meatloaf, mashed sweet potatoes, and california veggies with simply salt and pepper. ๐Ÿ™‚

I enjoyed Paul’s staycation. I had to work so we can’t call it that for me… But I had an incredible (almost) stay-cation. ๐Ÿ™‚

2 WODs (screaming quads) + 19mi = Runner Validation (Mental Victory!)

Okay, So I’m not doing so well with the staying on top of things and “jotting” down my thoughts and adventures… So allow me to tell you about my adventures for the week… Bare with me through Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is the real gem ๐Ÿ™‚

HOLY MOTHER OF PICKLES. I practically CRAWLED out of there. I had prepared Firecracker Chicken (recipe to come. trust me, you want it), some mashed garlic cauliflower, and a veggie.

Which brings me to Wednesday……

I rolled out of bed at 0515 and got ready to run. Poured myself some coffee and sat down at the table… Pondered running with screaming legs… my mind was weak. So hours passed as I read the blogs of others and poured over recipes… I reworked my entire week of running to avoid the long run for the day… FINALLY at 8am, I stood up with determination and made the preparations for my 14mi run. I grabbed a piece of homemade protein bar, a GU, filled my Nathan water bottle, prepared a Gatorade for when I finished…. and I plopped into my car heading down to run a completely unplanned long run up down and around Columbus GA. I text my brother en route reassuring myself that long runs are not “hard” runs, they are endurance runs… they are there to help break your body in and keep you enduring. Not break you…….

Allow me to recap…Image
0900 Start.
Mile 1– hoooooooooly em effer this is going to suck. Why didn’t I run earlier when it wasn’t hot?!
Mile 2– I feel like I’m creeping.
Mile 3– HOLY HECK! When I finish this, this will be my 3rd longest consecutive run ever!
Mile 4– I need a mantra. How have I run this long without one? Ohhh man, I need to weave up and down these roads. I’m not going to be able to hit 14 at this rate.
Mile 5– Thank God this breeze is here. What the heck did that lady say to me??! (.25mi later I realized she said nice socks. oops)
Miles 6-7– Testing new mantras……. eventually came upon “You can do this” to the tune(?) of “lets go defense” used in sports… haha.ย  I even did the “doot doot doo-doo-doot” part. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER.
Mile 8– Uhhh. I feel really good? This can’t be good.
Mile 9– I’m running out of places to run and I don’t want to run somewhere I have run already today!
Mile 10– Haha. That place is called lookin’ good, but I am going to take that as a compliment. ๐Ÿ™‚
Mile 11– GIMME GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU (It was actually a Clif Shot of the Chocolate type)
Miles 12-13– Mantra changed to “You will do this”
Mile 14 was literally joyous.
ImageI was not fast… but 2 hours 24 minutes and 48 seconds after I began… I was finished. I did not walk except for while consuming GU at Mi11 and got pissy when I got stuck at crosswalk lights. I have become that person that jogs in place. It was less painful than stopping!

I walked a mile to my car feeling accomplished and proud.

ImageI HAVE A MANTRA!
I RAN 14 MILES!
Iย  MAINTAINED A CONSISTENT PACE! Image
I am A RUNNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know what made this so different than the races I’ve completed or any other run. But somehow I feel like mentally I have finally validated myself as a runner.ย  We’ll see how well that goes when I approach next week’s 16-miler.

Everyone celebrates victories with Dark Chocolate M&Ms and an ice bath (my first) right? ๐Ÿ˜‰
